Angels Injury Update: Garrett Richards out 6-9 months

By on 8/21/2014 06:45:00 PM

Last night the Los Angeles Angels hopes for a World Championship took a crushing blow as Garrett Richards had to be taken off the field on a stretcher with a knee injury.  Today the news got worse as Gordon Edes reported that he has been placed on the 60 day disabled list with a torn patellar tendon and will be out up to nine months.
With an eight game lead over the second wild card, the loss or Richards should not hurt their playoff chances, but his absence could greatly effect their hopes in October as rotations need to be loaded with top caliber pitchers each night out.

The 26-year-old Richards has been a rock for the rotation for the entire season as he has preformed at a Cy Young level.  He has gone 13-4 with a 2.61 ERA.

To fill the void the Angels have purchased the contract of Wade LeBlanc, who has pitched with five teams in his seven year career.  He will start in the rotation on Monday against the Miami Marlins. In 7.1 innings, LeBlanc has a 7.36 ERA.
