Angels Injury Update: Josh Hamilton exits after HBP

By on 8/02/2014 09:45:00 AM

The Los Angeles Angels improved to 65-43 on the season following a 5-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. The victor pulled the Angels to within a game of the Oakland A's in the American League West. Mike Trout each homered and each had two hits for the Angels. For Trout, it was his 25th home run of the season. There was a bit of concern when Hamilton left the game in the seventh inning after being hit in the left middle finger by a pitch.

As reported by David Adler of, Hamilton suffered a contusion and possibly a fracture on his left middle finger when he was hit by a pitch from Jeff Beliveau in the seventh inning.

Following the game Hamilton said he was day-to-day, despite having X-rays which revealed a fracture. The doctors were unsure if the fracture was new or old since Hamilton had a broken finger a few years ago.
"I'll come in tomorrow and throw, see how that feels. Tomorrow's a big day. I've got to come back in tomorrow and see how it feels -- if it's hurting tremendously and I can't throw or grip a bat, then it's a different story. Tomorrow will be the day."
Hamilton has missed significant time this season due to injury and is batting .289 with seven home runs and 33 RBI in 59 games. The eight-year veteran has played for the Reds, Rangers and Angels and has a career batting average of .294 with 189 home runs and 665 RBI.
