Angels Injury Update: Tyler Skaggs to have Tommy John surgery

By on 8/10/2014 01:49:00 PM

Los Angeles Angels starter Tyler Skaggs is set to have Tommy John surgery, reports Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register:

Skaggs is already on the DL with what had been described as a flexor tendon strain but was surprisingly moved to the 60-day DL earlier on Sunday before this announcement came. The left-hander will obviously not pitch again in 2014 and will miss the vast majority, if not all of the 2015 season. Manager Mike Scioscia told Fletcher he doesn't expect Skaggs back with the team until 2016.

The 23-year-old last pitched on July 31st, when he left in the middle of a no-hit performance with discomfort in his left arm. At the time there did not seem to be much concern and although he was placed on the DL the following day, there was no indication that the team thought the injury would keep him out for the season.
