Astros Injury Update: George Springer told to rest two more weeks

By on 8/13/2014 04:00:00 AM

Many Houston Astros fans knew that they had little hope of competing in the American League West this season so instead they focused on the production of future stars like George Springer.  However they will have to wait longer to see him on the field again in an Astros uniform, as MLB.com beat writer Brian McTaggart is reporting that Springer will need at least two more weeks to return to the field.

Springer was one of the bright points of the Astros season.  After early struggles adjusting to major league pitching, Springer showed off his tremendous power hitting 20 home runs in his first 78 games.  These impressive numbers were very similar to those of slugger Giancarlo Stanton during his rookie season and put him among the league's best rookies.

Because the 24-year-old Springer is a focal point of the Astros' future the club is expected to take it easy with him and not rush him back to a team that is buried in the cellar in the AL West.
