Astros Injury Update: Josh Zeid transferred to 60-day DL

By on 8/31/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Houston Astros have improved somewhat on last year's 51-win season, but are still 57-79 and 25 games behind in the American League West. One area of continued concern is the pitching staff which is 26th in the Major Leagues in ERA. Injuries have not helped matters, as six pitchers are currently on the DL. One pitcher, Josh Zeid has been transferred to the 60-day DL and is possibly done for the season.

As reported by Chris Towers of, the Astros transferred reliever Zeid to the 60-day disabled list Saturday to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Zeid was initially placed on the disabled list at the end of July with bilateral sesamoiditis that had been bothering his foot.

Zeid, in his second Major League season, has struggled.  In 23 games, the righty has a 6.97 ERA and has allowed 30 hits and six home runs in 20 2/3 innings.  Last season, Zeid appeared in 25 games and was 0-1 with a 3.90 ERA and has a career ERA of 5.21 in 48 games.
