Athletics Injury Update: Coco Crisp improving, may return to lineup soon

By on 8/04/2014 12:45:00 PM

The Oakland A's fell to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday by the score of 4-2. The loss dropped the A's to 67-43 and reduced their lead in the American League West to a single game over the Los Angeles Angels. The A's continue to play without Coco Crisp, who has missed the last seven games with a neck injury. The good news is that the A's should see the return of their center fielder and lead off hitter soon.

I reported yesterday that Crisp, who has been out with a neck issue, was still not available to play over the weekend. He was not expected to go on the disabled list.

Susan Slusser, who covers the A's for the San Francisco Chronicle, tweeted the following update on Crisp.
Sam Fuld, who started for Crisp this weekend, should continue to get the bulk of the action in center field in Crisp's absence. Fuld is batting .259 with two home runs and 21 RBI this season.

Crisp, in his 13th season, is batting .274 with seven home runs and 32 RBI this season. The veteran has pitched for the Indians, Red Sox, Royals and A's and has a batting average of  .272 with 115 home runs, 563 RBI and 294 stolen bases.
