Athletics Injury Update: Craig Gentry, Kyle Blanks, Nick Punto

By on 8/15/2014 07:00:00 AM

According to Jane Lee of mlb.com, Craig Gentry has made significant strides in his return from a broken right hand. He stayed in Oakland when the team went on their road trip, and has begun to hit soft toss, and off a tee.  "When we were at home, he was all right throwing some, but it was when he was gripping the bat he was having some troubles," manager Bob Melvin said before Wednesday's game against the Royals. "Tee work, soft toss, then we increase it tomorrow."

There is no rush to get him back, as the A's have recently acquired Sam Fuld, and both can be on the roster starting September first, but all signs are encouraging so far.

Kyle Blanks, who's been on the DL for two months, is playing every other day for Triple A Sacramento, and slowly increasing his innings every time. Before he returns, the team wants him to play a full nine innings. Once he does that, they have to choose between him and Nate Freiman for their first baseman.

Nick Punto is eligible to come off the DL Monday, but will need an extra week to rehab his sore right hamstring.
