Athletics Injury Update: Craig Gentry activated

By on 8/22/2014 04:00:00 PM

The Oakland A's, who have led the American League West for most of the season, enter a weekend series with the Los Angeles Angels in second place, two games behind the Angels. To battle the Angels this weekend and down the stretch for a chance to win the division, the A's will need all their pieces in place. The good news is that outfielder Craig Gentry has been activated from the disabled list.

Our own Darius Austin reported yesterday that Gentry, who has been recovering from a broken hand,  had yet to get a hit or a walk in seven at bats with Triple-A Sacramento.

An update on Gentry, according to the Oakland A's official Twitter account,
The return of Gentry will be a welcome site in the outfield, mainly for his defense. Gentry has a career .996 fielding percentage in center field and has just five errors covering all three outfield positions, in 403 games.

Gentry, in his sixth Major League season and first with the A's, is batting .264 with 10 RBI and 18 stolen bases in 80 games. Gentry is a career  .276 hitter with four home runs, 75 RBI and 74 stolen bases.
