Athletics Injury Update: Jed Lowrie, Kyle Blanks

By on 8/08/2014 03:30:00 PM

Oakland Athletics shortstop Jed Lowrie is still out of the lineup after he bruised his right index finger, according to Jane Lee and Aaron Leibowitz of  Sports Injury Alert reported on Wednesday that Lowrie had bruised his finger on a ground ball in the fourth inning of Monday night’s game.  The A’s are also missing first baseman Kyle Blanks, who suffered a calf strain in June. He is scheduled to start a rehab assignment with Triple- A Sacramento on Saturday, playing his first game on Sunday.

Lowrie, 30, is in his second season with Oakland and has played in 106 games this year.  He is batting .244 with five home runs and 42 RBIs.  The A’s manager, Bob Melvin, said Thursday that he expects Lowrie to be in the lineup for tonight’s game against the Minnesota Twins, but the lineups had not been posted by the time this article was written.

Blanks, 27, has appeared in 21 games with Oakland after being traded from the San Diego Padres on May 15th of this year.  In his limited appearances with the A’s, Blanks is batting .333 with two homeruns and seven RBIs.

The Athletics (70-44) are in first place in the AL West.  The team plays the Minnesota Twins (51-62) tonight at 10:05 PM EST.  The Twins are in fifth place in the AL Central.
