Nick Punto The Oakland A's improved to 69-43 on the season following a 3-0 shutout of the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. Five A's pitchers scattered seven hits, with Jason Hammel picking up the win. Every A's player in the lineup had at least one hit, except for shortstop Eric Sogard, who went 0-for-1 with a walk. Sogard started in place of Jed Lowrie, who was out with a bruised finger.

As reported by Susan Slusser at, Lowie was looking for extended playing time with Nick Punto on the disabled list. But Lowrie missed last night's game after bruising his right index finger on a ground ball by Logan Forsythe in the fourth inning of Monday night's game.

Fortunately for Lowrie and the A's, X-rays taken following the game were negative. There is no word how long Lowrie will be sidelined, but expect him to remain out until swelling subsides. Lowrie is out of the lineup again on Wednesday.

Lowrie, in his seventh season, is batting .245 with five home runs and 42 RBI this season. The veteran has played for the Red Sox, Astros and A's and is a career .260 hitter with 55 home runs and 276 RBI.
