Athletics Injury Update: John Jaso placed on concussion DL

By on 8/25/2014 03:15:00 PM

UPDATE - Monday 3:10 ET: Jaso has indeed gone on the concussion DL, as Slusser confirms.

Original article: It looks like Sean Doolittle will have some company on the disabled list, as Oakland Athletics teammate John Jaso appears to be headed to the concussion DL.  Susan Slusser has reported that his condition has not improved and that he should be placed on the DL tomorrow.
The arbitration eligible catcher is currently in the midst of one of the best years of his career at the plate. Playing as both a catcher and designated hitter, Jaso has a .264 batting average and nine home runs in 99 games.  While the loss will not cripple the A's, missing Jaso's bat for at least the next seven days could play a factor in playoff positioning.

While the A's still have Derek Norris, they have reacted to the move by trading for Texas Rangers catcher, Geovany Soto.  Soto, a one-time Rookie of the Year catcher, has played in 10 games this year with the Rangers.  He is a career .248 hitter who has 98 career home runs.
