Athletics Injury Update: Josh Donaldson, Sam Fuld

By on 8/25/2014 03:45:00 PM

The Oakland Athletics appear to be picking up a lot of injuries at exactly the wrong time as they try to pip the Los Angeles Angels for the AL West crown. Josh Donaldson and Sam Fuld can now be added to Sean Doolittle and John Jaso on the A's list of concerns, with both battling left knee pain.

According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, third baseman Donaldson was sent for an MRI on Sunday after hurting his knee in his last at-bat on Saturday night. No structural issues were revealed and he is considered day-to-day for now. Oakland certainly can't afford to lose their best player for any extended period of time down the stretch, so expect them to monitor this very closely to ensure nothing more serious emerges.

Slusser also reports that Fuld was sporting an ice pack on his knee after crashing into the outfield wall while trying to make a catch in the second inning. The center fielder remained in the game but told Slusser later that the knee was 'bugging' him. Fuld has not kept up his strong season with the bat since being traded back to the A's from Minnesota, hitting just .234 with a .290 OBP since the move, but he remains a very valuable defensive player in center field.
