Athletics Injury Update: Kyle Blanks could start rehab Tuesday

By on 8/04/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Oakland A's fell to the Kansas City Royals in the final game of a weekend series by the score of 4-2. The loss dropped the A's to 67-43, first in the American League West, but the race is tightening with the fast charging Los Angeles Angels not far behind. An offense that is leading the league in runs scored could get an additional boost soon, as first baseman Kyle Blanks should be ready to begin a rehab start this week.

Our own Evan Petzold reported on July 26 that Blanks, who is on the disabled list with a left calf strain, was still a week away from a rehab assignment.

Susan Slusser, who covers the A's for the San Francisco Chronicle, tweeted the following update on Blanks.
Blanks, in his sixth Major League season, is batting .309 with two home runs and seven RBI in 55 at bats this season. He had his best season in 2009 with the Padres when he had 10 home runs, 22 RBI and a .250 average.  In 260 career games, Blanks has a batting average of .234 with 30 home runs and 105 RBI.
