Athletics Injury Update: Nick Punto exits with hamstring injury

By on 8/02/2014 05:52:00 PM

Nick Punto of the Oakland Athletics left Saturday’s game against the Royals due to a hamstring injury, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Eric Sogard pinch ran for Punto after he rounded third and grabbed his right hamstring.

Punto, 36, signed with Oakland this past offseason as a utility man after spending the majority of his career in Minnesota then with the Cardinals and the Dodgers. The 13-year veteran has a career slash of .245/.324/.322 with 104 stolen bases.

This season, Punto has a line of .207/.300/.279 with 2 home runs, 13 RBI, 24 wlaks, 51 strikeouts, and a .580 OPS in 64 games played. He has a 0.1 WAR.

In 2013, with Los Angeles, Punto had a slash of .255/.328/.327 with 2 home runs, 21 RBI, 33 wlaks, 67 strikeouts, and a .655 OPS in 116 games. He had a 2.2 WAR, which is impressive for a bench type player and only having 294 at-bats.

We will update you when more information comes out. For now, he will probably be out for a couple game at a minimum as hamstring injuries need multiple weeks to heal.
