Athletics Injury Update: Sean Doolittle, Kyle Blanks, Jed Lowrie

By on 8/24/2014 11:00:00 AM

The Oakland Athletics were able to breathe a sigh of relief as all-star closer Sean Doolittle is feeling better after experiencing a cramp in his side during last night's save.  Jane Lee of is reporting that Doolittle passed tests and his injury is not a serious concern.
This is very big news for the A's who moved back into a tie for first place last night with a victory over the Angels.  Doolittle has come into his own this year since taking over the closer's role with 19 saves and a 2.32 ERA. The 27 year-old should continue to be on the hill locking down saves as opportunities come.

The other injury news for the A's is not so positive.  After Friday's MRI, Lee reports that Kyle Blanks has suffered a setback with his Achilles tendon and has been shut down.  He was hitting very well on his rehab assignment, but now the rest of his season is in question.

Shortstop Jed Lowrie is also not close to a return from his finger injury.  While he has been taking ground balls, he is still unable to throw.  While he was having a down season, batting just .238 at the plate, his experience could be huge down the stretch as the team looks to hang on and vie for positioning in the final months.
