Bears Injury Update: Brian De Le Puente out with MCL sprain

By on 8/11/2014 11:42:00 PM

Bears Brian de la Puente injured his knee late in the second quarter of the Bears first preseason game against the Eagles. And according to Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears backup center is only out a couple weeks. This comes as quite a relief to the Bears, as the club is somewhat thin along the offensive line. Second year pro Kyle Long has been nursing a sore ankle the past few days of training camp, and de la Puente has been filling in at right guard for Long.

The Bears signed de la Puente to back up aging center Roberto Garza, but de la Puente can play guard as well. de la Puente started all 16 games for the Saints last year, and after having spent time as the offensive coordinator in New Orleans, current Bears offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer is familiar with de la Puente.
