Bears Injury Update: Zach Miller and Kyle Fuller injured in preseason game

By on 8/16/2014 03:00:00 PM

Chicago Bears’ recently acquired TE Zach Miller (left foot) and rookie CB Kyle Fuller (right ankle) suffered injuries during the first half of Thursday night’s preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported the news online, giving each player’s current status. “The Bears lost two of their best performers from training camp — rookie cornerback Kyle Fuller (right ankle) and tight end Zach Miller (left foot) — in the first half,” the Times said. “Fuller said he should be OK after X-rays on his ankle were negative, but there was concern in the locker room over Miller’s foot injury.”

Unfortunately for former Jacksonville Jaguar Zach Miller, his foot injury was more serious than Fuller’s. reported, “The news was not good for Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller's return to football after he injured his foot in Thursday's preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team placed Miller on the injured reserve list. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that the tight end suffered a Lisfranc injury -- torn ligaments. He will undergo another test to see if there is further damage.”

Things were looking good for Miller after catching six passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns during his first preseason game with the Bears. Bears’ QB Jordan Palmer said in an interview with the Sun-Times, “It’s heartbreaking. He’s had an unbelievable camp. When you come in off the streets, this is the camp you dream of…It’s not a work-ethic injury. It’s not because he’s out of shape; it’s not because of bad technique. It’s just a total bad-luck injury…He’s going to heal quickly. He’s going to rehab. He’s going to do everything they ask him to do. And he’s going to contribute somewhere. If it’s here, hopefully he comes back.”

With TE Martellus Bennet still suspended, Miller’s loss from the team is big blow. In his place the Bears signed Kofi Hughes to a one-year contract.

As for CB Kyle Fuller, his ankle injury appears to be minor. According to ESPN, “Fuller hurt the ankle during the game’s opening kickoff, but was later seen walking along the sideline under his own power. Fuller didn’t appear to be in any pain, and after the game he walked through the locker room without crutches or any type of walking boot. The injury isn’t believed to be serious, and Fuller told reporters after the game that X-rays on the ankle came back negative.”

Fuller, a first-round pick out of Virginia Tech, is joining a great secondary consisting of veterans Charles Tillman and Tim Jennings. Bears Head Coach Marc Trestman stated that Fuller’s condition will be known “as we get into Sunday and Monday.”

Fuller's return should be relatively soon, perhaps not next week, but the week after.
