Blue Jays Injury Update: Brandon Morrow could return as reliever in September

By on 8/21/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday by the score of 9-5. The win improved the Blue Jays to 65-62, second in the American League East. The Blue Jays, ranked 9th in the Major Leagues in runs scored, got home runs by Jose Bautista and Colby Rasmus. But for the Blue Jays to contend down the stretch, they will need better performance from a staff that is 24th in ERA. One pitcher who may help is Brandon Morrow, who could return as a reliever in September.

Morrow made six starts this season before being placed on the 60-day disabled list with a torn tendon in his right index finger on May 3. It was reported at the end of June that Morrow was making progress and could return to the rotation in August.

Since then, Morrow's timetable has been pushed back. Shi Davidi, who covers the Blue Jays for, tweeted the following update on Morrow.
Morrow, in his eighth Major League season, is 1-2 with a 5.93 ERA this season. The veteran has pitched for the Mariners and Blue Jays and is 42-42 with a 4.28 ERA.
