Blue Jays Injury Update: Brett Lawrie placed on DL

By on 8/07/2014 02:15:00 PM

Toronto Blue Jays (61-54) third baseman Brett Lawrie is headed back to the disabled list just days after being activated from more than a month long stint on the DL because of a fractured finger he suffered on June 22nd.  During his first game back, he was removed from the game due to tightness in his lower back.

Shi Davidi of Sportsnet tweeted this morning that the Blue Jays called up Rob Rasmussen from Triple-A Buffalo.  Lawrie was officially placed on the 15-day DL with an oblique strain.  It is possible that Lawrie injured himself trying to stretch a single into a double during the second inning of yesterday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles (64-49).

Lawrie is batting .247/.301/.421 in 70 games this season.  Despite the limited at-bats, Lawrie has set a career high in home runs (12).  It is unclear how long Lawrie will be on the disabled list.  The second place Blue Jays will play the series finale against the first place Orioles tonight at 7:07 PM.
