Blue Jays Injury Update: Edwin Encarnacion, Adam Lind

By on 8/03/2014 12:00:00 PM

The Toronto Blue Jays' Edwin Encarnacion and Adam Lind are still both far away from returning from the disabled list, but Lind has started to show enough progress in his recovery from a fractured right foot that he could begin a Minor League rehab assignment soon. Encarnacion, though, suffered a minor setback last week while trying to return from a quad strain. Neither player has a timetable for a return.

Adam Lind

In his recent update,'s Gregor Chisholm said Lind "would [appear] closer to returning" and would likely DH when he does begin an assignment. However, manager John Gibbons wants Lind ready to play first base before returning to the Majors. Chisholm quoted Gibbons discussing Lind's progress. Said Gibbons,
"Lind is moving along really quick. I would think he'll start a rehab here pretty soon too. I would think maybe next weekend."
Lind has played simulated games at the Blue Jays' training complex in Dunedin, Florida. He is hitting .320 with 4 HR and 27 RBI in 61 games for the Blue Jays. He went on the disabled list on July 8.

Edwin Encarnacion

The slugging first baseman/DH had a setback last week as our own Nathaniel Reeves described. Encarnacion mildly aggravated his strained right quad while swinging a bat on July 26. Chisholm says that Encarnacion will start simulated games when the discomfort settles before beginning a "relatively brief" rehab assignment.

Encarnacion was hitting .277 with 26 HR and 70 RBI in 88 games. He went on the disabled list on July 6 after leaving the July 5 game with the original injury.
