Blue Jays Injury Update: Melky Cabrera to play through pain

By on 8/09/2014 07:30:00 AM

The Toronto Blue Jays lost to the Detroit Tigers on Friday by the score of 5-4. It was a tough loss for the Blue Jays, who were leading 4-2 in the top of the ninth. The Blue Jays are 4th in the league in runs scored, but the pitching staff, which is 24th in ERA let them down. Casey Janssen blew the save and took the loss, allowing three runs and four hits in 2/3 of an inning. On the injury front, Melky Cabrera was in the lineup and went 1-for-5 after being hit by a pitch in Thursday's game.

Our own Jacob Fagan reported yesterday that Cabrera was considered day-to-day after being hit by a pitch by Miguel Gonzalez of the Baltimore Orioles in the first inning.

Barry Davis, who covers the Blue Jays for, tweeted the following on Cabrera's status.
Cabrera, in his 10th Major League season, is batting .314 with 14 home runs and 60 RBI this season. He's played for the Yankees, Braves, Royals, Giants and Blue Jays and has a career average of .287 with 86 home runs, 506 RBI and 91 stolen bases.
