By on 8/06/2014 12:26:00 AM

Atlanta Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons left Tuesday night's game with the Seattle Mariners in the fourth inning with a sprained left ankle after tripping the third base bag as he was covering the base during a play at the plate (video here). He was replaced by Ramiro Pena. He will be evaluated Wednesday and is listed as day-to-day, according to the team.

Simmons, who won the 2013 Gold Glove award, is hitting .249/.298/.341 (OPS+ 78) with five homers and 36 RBI for the second-place Braves. Now 24, Simmons is in his third major league season. He was drafted by the Braves in 2010 (2nd round) and made his debut June 2, 2012. Prior to the 2014 season he signed an extension for seven years, $58 million that takes him through 2020.
