Braves Injury Update: Andrelton Simmons hoping to return Tuesday

By on 8/11/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Atlanta Braves defeated the Washington Nationals on Sunday by the score of. 3-1. Justin Upton hit his 21st home run of the season in the winning effort. The victory improved the Braves to 60-57 and pulled them to within four games of the Nationals in the National League East. The Braves were once again without shortstop Andrelton Simmons, who's been out with an ankle injury. The good news is that Simmons is improving and hoping to return on Tuesday.

Our own Nathaniel Reeves reported on August 9 that Simmons was removed from Atlanta’s game on Tuesday after hurting his ankle while covering third base. The Braves were hoping that Simmons could avoid a trip to the disabled list.

David O'Brien, who covers the Braves for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, tweeted the following update on Simmons.
Simmons, in his third Major League season, is batting .249 with five home runs and 36 RBI in 107 games. Last season, he had a batting average of .248 with 17 home runs and 59 RBI. Simmons is a career .254 hitter with 25 home runs and 114 RBI.
