Braves Injury Update: Andrelton Simmons exits with sore hip

By on 8/20/2014 10:00:00 AM

The Atlanta Braves improved to 66-60 on the season following a 11-3 blowout of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. Aaron Harang allowed nine hits and three earned runs in 8 1/3 innings to get the win. Justin Upton lead a 14-hit offensive attack with five RBI, including a home run. There was a bit of concerning news as shortstop Andrelton Simmons had to leave the game with a sore hip after going 1-for-3. Ramiro Pena replaced Simmons and went 1-for-1.

David O'Brien, who covers the Braves for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, tweeted the following on the status of Simmons.
There is no word as to how much time, if any, Simmons will miss. Should Simmons be unable to play today, expect Pena, who is batting .226 with three home runs and eight RBI, to get the start at shortstop.

Simmons, in his third Major League season, is batting .252 with six home runs and 41 RBI. In his first full season last year, Simmons hit .248 with 17 home runs and 59 RBI. He's a career .255 hitter with 26 home runs and 119 RBI.
