By on 8/31/2014 05:15:00 PM

Carlos Gomez of the Brewers left the game Sunday against the Giants in the third inning due to a sore left wrist after swinging at a pitch, the team announced. Gerardo Parra replaced him in center field.

Gomez, 28, is a National League MVP candidate as his Brewers team is in first place in the NL central this season. They are looking to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2011 when they defeated the Diamondbacks in the NLDS and then lost to the Cardinals in the NLCS.

In 2014, Gomez has a slash of .282/.348/.479 with 21 home runs, 65 RBI, 38 walks, 129 strikeouts, 29 stolen bases, and an .827 OPS in 127 games. He has a 3.6 WAR according to Baseball Reference.

In 2013, Gomez hit for a line of .284/.338/.506 with 24 home runs, 73 RBI, 37 walks, 146 strikeouts, 40 stolen bases, and an .844 OPS in 147 games. He had an impressive 8.4 WAR according to Baseball Reference.

We will keep you updated as more information comes in. If he is out for an extended amount of time, they have Khris Davis, Ryan Braun, and Parra to back him up.
