Brewers Injury Update: Kyle Lohse, Jim Henderson, Tyler Thornburg

By on 8/16/2014 10:45:00 AM

This week the Milwaukee Brewers not only saw starting pitcher Kyle Lohse leave his start early, but they received disappointing news about to other pitchers, too.  Pitchers Tyler Thornburg and Jim Henderson are going to be shut down for the remainder of the season. Brewers beat writer Adam McCalvy said that while neither had a set back, Gord Ash stated that neither was progressing.  Henderson will seek a second opinion on cleanup shoulder surgery, while Thornburg had an injection to help his elbow heal.

Before his injury Henderson struggled, not only losing his closer role, but also losing trust from manager Ron Roenicke to pitch in important situations. He posted a 7.15 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched.  Meanwhile, Thornburg became one of the better arms in the bullpen. With rehab and recovery, they are both expected to be key contributors to the team next season.

McCalvy also reported that Lohse's next start will be skipped while he deals with his injured ankle.  The Brewers will take advantage of their two off days next week by starting Fiers in his place and moving everyone up a day in the rotation.  Roenicke did not state when Lohse will return, but there is hope that he will be ready to pitch when his next turn comes.

Currently Lohse is 11-7 with a 3.49 ERA.  He is a player that not only has been successful on the field, but has been a leader for the club's young pitchers.  In the heart of a pennant race he is a player that cannot be lost.
