Brewers Injury Update: Matt Garza won't return when eligible

By on 8/10/2014 02:30:00 PM

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Matt Garza will need more than the minimum 15 days on the disabled list says's Adam McCalvy and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt. Manager Ron Roenicke had originally said that Garza would return on August 20, but he has not shown enough progress for that return date to occur.

In his August 10 blog report, Haudricourt says that Garza still has soreness in his rib cage after physical therapy sessions, and, therefore, Roenicke will not allow Garza to start throwing until the soreness stops. Haudricout quoted Roenicke discussing the decision. Said Roenicke,
"He didn't have a setback but until he is completely pain-free with different motions, they're not going to let him throw. He has treatments in here. They're going to start doing some (plyometrics) with him, which means holding a ball and throwing it against this little thing, but not playing catch."
Garza is on the disabled list with a strained left rib cage. He last pitched on August 4, allowing one hit in six innings. For the season, Garza is 7-7 with a 3.58 ERA and 1.13 WHIP.
