Browns Injury Update: Johnny Manziel examined by medical staff

By on 8/10/2014 09:39:00 AM

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel took a hard hit after throwing a pass against the Detroit Lions in his preseason debut. But's Mary Kay Cabot reports that Manziel told reporters after the game he's fine.

Manziel completed 7 of 11 attempts for 63 yards for a 79.0 rating. He did not throw a touchdown or an interception. He did run six times for a team-high 27 yards and 4.5 yards per rush average.

In the process though, Manziel took a couple of hard hits. He was checked by the medical team on the sidelines, but returned. Some doubt that the wreckless style Manziel employed to win the Heisman Trophy at Texas A&M will translate to the NFL, but Manziel appears to have escaped his first test in good shape.

"It's a football game,'' Manziel told reporters after the game. "It's physical. It's part of the game, but I feel really good. I feel great.''

Manziel worked exclusively with the second-string offense. There's some talk he'll start the Browns next preseason game against the Washington Redskins.

The Browns lost last night's game in the final minute 13-12.
