Browns Injury Update: Tashaun Gipson out with sprained knee

By on 8/04/2014 02:31:00 PM

This past Friday, Cleveland Browns FS Tashaun Gipson injured his left knee in practice, which an MRI revealed to be a slight sprain.

According to the Akron Beacon Journal, “an MRI revealed Browns free safety Tashaun Gipson suffered a sprained left knee during practice Friday, a person familiar with the situation told the Beacon Journal on Saturday morning.”

Although nobody knows yet of how the injury was sustained, coach Mike Petitine is hopeful of Gipson’s return.

In a press conference with The News Herald, Petitine said, "I don’t know that he’s got that many opportunities with balls thrown at him, but he’s done a good job…He’s done a really good job right from Day One, learning the system and taking the classroom onto the field.”

After being undrafted out of Wyoming, Gipson showed his true potential last season with the Browns, intercepting five passes, defending 12 passes and tackling ball carriers 94 times.

With Gipson out, it seems to be veteran Jim Leonhard and reserve Jordan Poyer will be fighting over the FS spot for the time being. At the moment, it does not seem like Gipson will be out long however, if he does though, that would be a huge blow to an already improved Browns secondary with CB Joe Haden, SS Donte Whitner and rookie CB Justin Gilbert.
