Bulls Injury Update: Derrick Rose returns to court

By on 8/26/2014 07:00:00 AM

The Chicago Bulls compiled a regular season record of 48-34 in the 2013-2014 season and lost in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs to the Washington Wizards. The Bulls won nearly 50 games, despite ranking 30th in the league in scoring. Much of the offensive woes can be attributed to the fact that Derrick Rose missed most of the season due to injury.  Rose has improved this off season to the point where he made the final roster for Team USA for the World Cup. Rose made his first appearance in a game on Friday night, coming off the bench against Puerto Rico in an exhibition game.

As reported by  Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPNNewYork.com,  Rose provided a spark off the bench to thelp the United States defeat Puerto Rico by the score of 112-86 at Madison Square Garden.

Coach Mike Krzyzekwski was confident in Rose's ability to help the team despite missing most of the past two seasons with knee injuries. Rose played 13 minutes off the bench and has six points, with four assists.
"I feel very confident about Derrick. I think Derrick feels very confident. Thought he played great tonight. And these guys want to play with him. Part of getting back is to be around a group of peers. These guys are peers who want [Rose] to be really good. ... Hopefully that will help Derrick as he gets ready to keep participating in this but also for the NBA season. I think it is a huge, huge help for him."
Rose looked quick on the defensive end of the court and was mainly setting up teammates on the offensive end.  Teammate James Harden  said that Rose brings a great presence to the court.
"Derrick brings something that we don't have as far as being able to push the ball so fast and get into the paint and so athletic. Made a couple of passes, cross-court passes for open 3s. He looked phenomenal."
Rose is a five-year NBA veteran out of Memphis.  He's played only 49 games over the past three seasons and missed all of last year recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.  In 289 career games, all with the Bulls, Rose is averaging 20.8 points, 6.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.
