Colts Injury Update: Khaled Holmes injures ankle

By on 8/07/2014 08:17:00 PM

Indianapolis Colts starting center Khaled Holmes left their preseason opener against the Jets early. Dan Hanzus at reports that Holmes limped off the field Thursday night after sustaining an ankle injury on the team's opening drive.

Holmes is expected to bring stability to the center position for the Colts. It's something they haven't had since former center Jeff Saturday retired.

Holmes is coming off an injury-plagued rookie season that saw him only play in three games, so this is not how he wanted to start the year.

The Colts are counting on a very young offensive line to protect start quarterback Andrew Luck. Their three interior offensive lineman will consist of first- or second-year players.

Indianapolis lost another offensive lineman early in the second quarter when rookie right tackle Ulrick John suffered an apparent leg injury. John needed to be helped off the field by two trainers.
