Cowboys Injury Update: Ben Gardner done for the year with shoulder injury

By on 8/14/2014 03:00:00 PM

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Ben Gardner is likely going to miss the entire season after suffering a shoulder injury that will likely require surgery, Todd Archer of reports.

Gardner suffered the injury near the start of training camp in late July and was able to return to practice August 3. However, according to Archer, he realized there was not enough strength to continue playing this season.

Gardner confirmed the severity of the injury with a post on his Twitter account.
The seventh round selection in this past year's draft, Gardner was expected to be a part of Dallas' defensive line rotation this season.

Instead, he joins fellow rookie defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence as the second Cowboys rookie to undergo surgery this offseason. Lawrence is expected to miss the first three to six games.
