Cowboys Injury Update: Morris Claiborne ruled out for week 2 preseason game

By on 8/16/2014 08:39:00 AM

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne is not expect to play in his team's second preseason game. Tim McMahon of ESPN Dallas reports that Claiborne is battling a shoulder injury.

Claiborne missed week 1 of the preseason with a sore knee, so this is another setback for him. He came into the league as a highly-touted prospect two years ago. In fact, the Cowboys traded up to get him, taking Claiborne with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 draft.

Injuries are nothing new to Claiborne. He only played in two preseason games last year because he was hurt and ended up losing his starting job because of it, which he has yet to win back.

Claiborne's latest injury is being described as an AC joint separation. Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett told "Hopefully, he can get back from this thing as quickly as possible and take advantage of the last couple of weeks of the preseason."

Dallas will already be short-handed at cornerback when the regular season begins. Orlando Scandrick is out for the first four games for a drug suspension.

The Cowboys play the Baltimore Ravens in week 2 of the preseason tonight. They will host the San Francisco 49ers in their regular season opener on September 7.
