Cubs Injury Update: Brian Schlitter activated, optioned

By on 8/25/2014 11:00:00 AM

The Chicago Cubs have struggled to a record of 58-72, last in the National League Central. Although the pitching staff has a respectable ERA of 3.72, the Cubs' offense is only 28th in batting average at .239 and 28th in runs scored. One pitcher who could boost the staff further in the future is reliever Brian Schlitter, who has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and optioned to Triple-A.

On August 10 Schlitter was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. He was a reliable reliever the first half of the season but struggled to an ERA of 5.68 in his last 16 games prior to being disabled.

Carrie Muskat, who covers the Cubs for, tweeted the following on Schlitter's status.
Schlitter, in his first full Major League season, is 2-3 with a 3.47 ERA in 53 appearances. He had a very high 12.38 ERA in seven appearances last season and has a career record of 2-4 with a 4.71 ERA.
