By on 8/18/2014 02:00:00 PM

The Chicago Cubs entered today's game against the New York Mets coming off a 2-1 win on Sunday. With a record of 53-70, the Cubs are last in the National League Central. The Cubs are without outfielder Chris Coghlan with a toe injury. It's not good news for the Cubs, who have already been struggling offensively, ranked 27th in the Major Leagues in runs scored. Arismendy Alcantara is playing today for Coghlan and leading off.

Carrie Muskat, who covers the Cubs for, tweeted the following, confirming Coghlan's status.
Alcantara, in his first Major League season, is batting .211 with three home runs and 12 RBI, in 142 at bats.  Coghlan, in his sixth Major League season and first with the Cubs, is batting .277 with six home runs and 23 RBI.  He's played for the Marlins and Cubs and has a career batting average of .271 with 27 home runs and 140 RBI.

There is no word yet as to the severity of the injury or how much time Coghlan will miss.
