Cubs Injury Update: Edwin Jackson hits DL with lat strain

Cubs right-hander Edwin Jackson has been placed on the 15-DL with a right lat strain, according to Carrie Muskat of Left-handed reliever Zac Rosscup was recalled from Triple-A Iowa.

After Jackson gave up seven runs over 2.2 innings on Wednesday against the Giants, he said he could no longer pitch through discomfort. With the loss Jackson fell to a league worst 6-14 record and 6.09 ERA.

Jackson, 30, also posted a league-worst 18 losses in 2013 with the Cubs, along with a 5.98 ERA. His best season was 2009, when he was with Detroit, going 13-0 with a 3.62 ERA and was named to the AL All-Star team. In twelve major league seasons, Jackson has pitched for eight clubs (Dodgers, Devil Rays/Rays, Tigers, Diamondbacks, White Sox, Cardinals, Nationals, Cubs) compiling an overall record of 83-100, ERA 4.56.

"Ejax" was drafted in 2001 by the Los Angeles Dodgers (6th round) and made his debut on his 20th birthday, September 9, 2003. He was part of trades involving Curtis GrandersonMax ScherzerPhil CokeAustin Jackson, and Colby Rasmus (among others) until he reached free agency after the 2011 season. He signed a one-year "pillow" contract with the Washington Nationals and did well enough (10-11, 4.03 ERA) to score a four-year $52 million deal with the Cubs that takes him through 2016.
