Cubs Injury Update: Felix Doubront set for Saturday return

Chicago Cubs left-handed starting pitcher Felix Doubront will start Saturday in a double-header against the Cardinals, according to Carrie Muskat of He pitched 10 innings with the Triple-A Cubs combining for a 5.40 ERA while going winless. He was placed on the 15-day DL with a left calf strain.

Doubront, 26, was acquired from the Red Sox on July 30 for future considerations after having an up and down stint with Boston. He had a 6.07 ERA in 59.1 innings pitched this season while carrying a 1.60 WHIP, striking out 43, and walking 26. He had a -1.3 WAR.

In 2013, Doubront had a 4.32 ERA in 162 innings while striking out 139 and walking 71. He had a 1.43 WHIP while having a 0.9 WAR. He made 29 appearances and 27 starts.

The Cubs sit at 58-72, 14 games back in the NL Central and 10.5 games back in the NL wild card. They start a three game series against the Cincinnati Reds Monday.
