Cubs Injury Update: Kris Bryant has foot contusion

By on 8/17/2014 04:00:00 PM

UPDATE: There is very good news coming out of Triple-A Iowa. Chicago Cubs beat writer Carrie Muskat of has announced the results of third baseman Kris Bryant's Sunday MRI. The exam showed only a contusion (bruise) and nothing serious. He is listed as day-to-day.

ORIGINAL: Chicago Cubs' prized prospect Kris Bryant left Saturday night's Triple-A game in the third inning with a toe injury. He had X-rays at a local hospital, and they came back inconclusive. He will have an MRI on Sunday says's Cubs beat writer Carrie Muskat.

In her Saturday night report, Muskat said that Bryant drew a walk in the first inning. He left after the second inning with team trainers and went to a Des Moines hopital.

In addition, Des Moines County Register's Tommy Birch said that Bryant actually injured his toe a few days ago when he fouled a ball off it. Birch quoted Iowa Cubs manager Marty Pevey saying, "After the walk tonight, he started to feel it." Pevey had more to say:
"He's a tough kid. He's been dealing with it himself for the last couple of nights and sucking it up because he's a freaking gamer."
Bryant is hitting .306 with 18 home runs and 45 RBI in 56 games with Triple-A Iowa. He has totals of .333, 40 HR, and 103 RBI when adding in his Double-A Tennessee numbers from earlier this season.

The Cubs and their fans are anxiously awaiting the results of Sunday's MRI. Cub fans also eagerly await Bryant's Major League debut, possibly this September, should his MRI turn out fine.
