By on 8/14/2014 04:15:00 PM

The Diamondbacks had hoped outfielder A.J. Pollock would be back on the field by now, but his recovery is coming along slower than expected. He broke his hand on May 31 and was then struck on the same hand in his rehab assignment on July 31 in Arizona League, according to Nick Piercoro of Arizona Central.

The hit by pitch in the Arizona League was on a different part of the hand, but didn’t slow him down as he later played a rehab game in the Pacific Coast League. Lately, though, his hand has been bothering him, Kirk Gibson said. He visited with a doctor and he said there isn’t further damage.

This season, Pollock has a line of .316/.366/.554 with 6 home runs, 15 RBI, 12 walks, 36 strikeouts, 8 stolen bases, and a .920 OPS in 52 games. He has made one error this season while having 5 assists.

In 2013, Pollock hit for a slash of .269/.322/.409 with 8 home runs, 38 RBI, 33 walks, 82 strikeouts, 12 stolen bases, and a .731 OPS in 137 games. He committed just 2 errors all season while racking up 8 assists.

Shortstop Chris Owings continues to progress in his return from a left shoulder strain. He will face live pitching soon when goes up against Matt Reynolds, according to Piercoro. It will also be Reynold’s first time pitching to hitters since his Tommy John surgery in September. Manager, Gibson there isn’t a timetable for either play.

“We’re moving as fast as we can. We can’t rush it,” Gibson stated.

Meanwhile, outfielder Cody Ross is out with a left calf strain, according to Gibson and was scheduled to run the bases this past weekend, but wasn’t healthy enough.

This season, Ross has a line of .238/.287/.306 with 2 home runs, 11 RBI, 10 walks, 32 strikeouts, and a .593 OPS in 66 games. He had been out with a dislocated hip that he had surgery on at the end of 2013.

In 2013, after signing a lucrative two year deal, Ross hit for a slash of .278/.331/.413 with 8 home runs, 38 RBI, 25 walks, 50 strikeouts, and a .744 OPS in 94 games.
