Dodgers Injury Update: Adrian Gonzalez, Yasiel Puig, Paul Maholm

By on 8/02/2014 09:30:00 AM

On Friday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost more than the game to the Chicago Cubs; they lost three players -- Adrian Gonzalez, Yasiel Puig and Paul Maholm -- to injury. Puig and Gonzalez have minor injuries and are day-to-day, but Maholm left on crutches, indicating a much more serious problem.

Here are the latest updates via MLB.com's Michael Lanana.

Adrian Gonzalez
In the bottom of the first, Gonzalez bruised his right knee sliding into home in attempt to score. The :33 mark of the video shows him hitting his knee on the ground. The video shows all three players' injuries in the order in which they occurred.

Gonzalez stayed in the game until the top of the third when Scott Van Slyke replaced him at first base. Gonzalez already had some back soreness. Manager Don Mattingly said that Gonzalez is stiff and sore but it is not serious.

Yasiel Puig
In the bottom of the sixth, Puig scored from second base on a double-play attempt. During his time on the bases, though, he mildly strained his left hamstring.

Andre Ethier replaced him in center field when the Dodgers came out for the top of the seventh. Mattingly said he is not sure exactly when it happened, but he will "see where he's at tomorrow." Mattingly called Puig day-to-day.

Paul Mahlom
UPDATE: Paul Maholm has a torn ACL and may need surgery.
=================================================================
ORIGINAL: The news is much worse for Maholm. The 1:20 mark of the video clip shows the play in which Maholm injured his right knee while covering first. Maholm reached for the bag with his right leg while taking the throw from Van Slyke. He hit the bag and went down immediately. Lanana said the Maholm heard a pop in his knee. Maholm eventually walked off under his own power, but he later needed crutches.
Mattingly described Maholm's injury, calling it "pretty serious." Said Mattingly,
"Paul's is the one that's pretty serious, it seems, like the way he came off the field and was moving around. He felt it the step before he got to the bag. He was walking good, but then we he got to the steps, it kind of gave out."

Maholm went for an MRI, and the Dodgers are awaiting results.
