Dodgers Injury Update: Chris Perez, Chone Figgins

By on 8/05/2014 03:00:00 PM

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed reliever Chris Perez on the 15-day DL on Monday. The team announced the move on their official Twitter account, citing bone spurs in his right ankle:'s Michael Lananna reported that Perez got an MRI after experiencing tenderness in the ankle during his appearance over the weekend. Perez told reporters that he has experienced problems with that ankle throughout his career and he hopes to be ready when the minimum 15 days are up. He refused to blame his 5.03 ERA and 1.45 WHIP on the injury. Paul Maholm, who will undergo surgery on his torn ACL, was moved to the 60-day DL to make room for Perez' replacement, Carlos Frias.

It looks like the Dodgers won't have room on the 25-man roster for Chone Figgins, who will end his rehab assignment today after the maximum 20 days. Manager Don Mattingly was non-committal about a move being made for Figgins, but Lananna said he gave no indication that the veteran would be called up. With Juan Uribe and Hanley Ramirez now healthier and playing most days, and Justin Turner and Miguel Rojas backing them up, there is no real need for Figgins on the bench right now.
