Dodgers Injury Update: Hyun-jin Ryu, Juan Uribe

By on 8/16/2014 09:30:00 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers' Juan Uribe left Friday night's game with a hamstring issue, just shortly after Hyun-jin Ryu was placed on the disabled list following his early exit Thursday. The Dodgers tweeted both the Ryu move and the Uribe exit from their official account.

MLB.com reports that Uribe left after six innings because his hamstring tightened up. Manager Don Mattingly indicated the team didn't want to take any chances as it is the same hamstring that Uribe pulled earlier in the year, causing him to miss over a month. Justin Turner stepped in at third base.

The MLB.com report also notes that Ryu was officially diagnosed with "a grade 1-2 strain of the gluteus medius and piriformis muscles of his right posterior hip area" by Dr ElAttrache following his MRI, but it will take a few days before the Dodgers can really get a good idea of the timeframe for return. With Josh Beckett done for the season, Los Angeles could really do with a swift return from Ryu. Although they have addressed rotation depth with two recent acquisitions, Kevin Correia and Roberto Hernandez, Ryu's quality and consistency is far superior to either player.
