Dodgers Injury Update: Paco Rodriguez hits DL

By on 8/06/2014 10:00:00 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Los Angeles Angels last night by the score of 5-4. The win improved the Dodgers to 64-50, two and a half games in front of the San Francisco Giants in the National League West. With an offense that is 11th in the Major Leagues in runs scored and a staff that is 7th in ERA, the Dodgers have been consistently good all season. But there is some concern on the injury front, as Paco Rodriguez became the sixth pitcher currently on the disabled list.

As reported by Michael Lananna and Ken Gurnick of, Rodriguez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a teres major strain, three days after being recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque. Pedro Baez was recalled to replace Rodriguez.

Rodriguez pitched two innings on Sunday in relief of Paul Maholm, but was sore the next day and felt the muscle know up yesterday. It was the first time this year that Rodriguez pitched two innings.
"It's just one of those things where I want to come back up and help out in whatever way possible. And when something like that happens you just don't know what to tell yourself at that point. And you're mentally frustrated and you're upset with yourself, because for me I felt like I didn't do enough to keep myself healthy. It's another learning curve in my whole career."
Rodriguez, in his third Major League season, has appeared in only 13 games after making 76 appearances last season. In 10 1/3 innings he's allowed 10 hits and struck out 11, posting an ERA of 4.35.  Rodriguez was stellar last season, allowed only 30 hits in 54 1/3 innings, with 63 strikeouts and a 2.32 ERA.
