Dodgers Injury Update: Scott Van Slyke exits with sprained ankle

By on 8/27/2014 11:45:00 PM

Although it looked much worse than it was, the Los Angeles Dodgers are reporting that Scott Van Slyke left tonight's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a mild-ankle sprain and should be back soon.
While the 28-year-old is not an everyday player, he may be one of the biggest weapons off of the bench.  He is both a power bat and a player that can step in at both first base and in the outfield.  While he has only 170 at-bats, Van Slyke is batting .265 with nine home runs and 20 RBIs. In his 35 at-bats off the bench, he has a .286 average with a homer.

Although the Dodgers outfield is stacked with players ready to play, Van Slyke is a needed piece as they head toward the postseason.  While he is listed as day-to-day, they must be cautious to be sure that he is not only available, but healthy when big at-bats come his way.
