Eagles Injury Update: Jeremy Maclin doubtful for second preseason game

By on 8/15/2014 03:30:00 PM

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin missed all of the 2013 season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee early in training camp. Now healthy, he is in line to become the team's clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver this year with DeSean Jackson gone.

All indications had been that Maclin was close to being back to full strength, with no major setbacks coming to the forefront. But a report this week that suggested he is struggling to stay at 100 percent has been backed up by beat writer Jeff McClane's assertion that Maclin is "unlikely" to play in the Eagles' second preseason game Friday night against the New England Patriots.

Maclin's status for the start of the season does not appear to be in doubt, but if he is any way limited for Philadelphia's third preseason game next Thursday night concern will certainly grow. In his absence against the Patriots Friday night, Jordan Matthews, Josh Huff, Brad Smith, Damaris Johnson and Arrelious Benn should all get plenty of run at wide receiver.
