By on 8/21/2014 08:27:00 PM

The Atlanta Falcons are hopeful that running back Steven Jackson will be ready for the first regular season game. Jackson injured his hamstring early in training camp and has yet to play in a preseason game.

D. Orlando Ledbetter of the AJC tweeted a comment from Head Coach Mike Smith:
Josh Alper of reported Jackson could be ready to start practicing with teammates soon and Jackson may have an appearance in the final preseason game.

In 2013, Jackson had 157 carries for 543 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. It is important to note that Jackson did miss some time in 2013 also due to a hamstring injury.

The Falcons do have Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith next on the depth chart if Jackson fails to be ready for the opening game.
