Giants Injury Update: Geoff Schwartz could miss entire season

By on 8/26/2014 09:00:00 PM

Last weekend when Giants left guard Geoff Schwartz was carted off the field, there were numerous questions surrounding the injury and his timetable for return. After seeing Dr. Anderson in Charlotte this week, it seems that Schwartz will avoid surgery at the moment and begin rehabilitation on his dislocated right big toe.

The news this week on Schwartz is promising at the moment but before he can begin rehabilitation he will be in a walking boot for seven to ten days. The walking boot will allow Schwartz to walk freely while protecting the injury from weight bearing stresses. Once the walking boot is off and Schwartz can begin rehabilitation he will be evaluated weekly.

The timetable for his return is still unclear; some reports think he could miss six weeks or possibly the year. At this moment in time it is hard to give a definitive timeline for his return, it depends on how his toe responds to the rehabilitation and also what the weekly evaluations show.  Schwartz avoiding surgery is definitely good news, but we will have to wait and see how well he can rehabilitate.
