Giants Injury Update: Joe Panik exits with hand injury

By on 8/17/2014 07:02:00 PM

Update (7:52): Henry Schulman of SF Gate says Panik's x-rays came back negative. Will be day-to-day.

Joe Panik of the Giants left Sunday’s game against the Phillies due to a left pinky injury. He was sliding into second base when he jammed his pinky into second base. He continued to run and then was taken out for defense by Joaquin Arias.

Panik, 23, was finally starting to swing the bat as he was hitting for a slash of .282/.336/.333 with 8 RBI, 10 walks, 15 strikeouts, and a .669 OPS in 36 games. He has 117 at-bats with the big league club as a rookie.

The Giants have already lost Marco Scutaro and Ehire Adrianza to injuries, so if Panik has to miss time, we could see the Giants acquire somebody via trade.

We will keep you updated until more information comes out.
