Giants Injury Update: Mario Manningham Suffers Calf Injury

By on 8/29/2014 11:00:00 AM

New York Giants wide receiver and former super bowl hero Mario Manningham
left last nights final preseason game against the New England Patriots with a calf injury and did not return for the remainder of the game. Dan Grazino first reported that Manningham suffered a calf injury and would not return.

Mario Manningham signed a one year deal to return to the New York Giants this off season, after an injury plagued two year stint with the San Francisco 49ers. With the San Francisco 49ers Manningham saw limited action due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament and posterior cruciate ligament in the 2012 season. Manningham struggled to return to the field in the 2013 season and was eventually placed on the injured reserve list. The New York Giants looked to reunite Eli Manning with Manningham this off season by signing him to a one year deal, but Manningham has not been healthy throughout the off season and was limited in training camp.

Manningham was on the roster bubble entering Thursday nights preseason finale with the New England Patriots and his departure from the game with a calf injury is a sign that he will not make the roster. Since the 2012 season when Manningham sustained a torn ACL and PCL he has never seemed to recover and return to the player he once was. With final roster cuts coming this weekend we will see if Manningham does make the roster, but from reports within the Giants organization it does not seem like he will be on the final 53 man roster.
