Giants Injury Update: Michael Morse scratched with ingrown toenail

By on 8/10/2014 01:08:00 PM

According to Hank Schulman of SF Gate,  Michael Morse was scratched from Sunday’s lineup against the Royals due to an ingrown toenail. Adam Duvall will play first base after he was just recalled for Juan Perez.

Morse, 32, has a line of .273/.326/.464 with 15 home runs, 52 runs batted in, striking out 105 times, walking 24 times, and has an OPS of .790 in 113 games. He has a WAR of 0.7 according to Baseball-Reference. He has struggled defensively. He signed a one-year, $6 million contract in the offseason.

In 2013, Morse hit for a slash of .215/.270/.381 with 13 home runs, 27 RBI, 21 walks, 87 strikeouts, and a .651 OPS in 88 games with the Mariners and Orioles. He was plagued with wrist injuries all year and insisted he was 100% healthy going into 2014.

The Giants sit at 62-55, 3.5 games back in the National League West behind the Dodgers, but are tied for the first Wild Card slot with the Pirates and Cardinals. Tim Lincecum (9-7, 4.22 ERA) and Danny Duffy (6-10, 2.39 ERA) will face off the finale of this series as the Giants try to avoid the sweep on the road.
